Learn/How To - Create New Start to Start Task in MS Project 2013

Addition of task is very important as it lays the foundation for any project. A Project is basically a plan to execute and achieve a predefined objective.

There are 4 types of  Tasks in the MS Project 2013 tool, here we can add our task by our requirement.

These are
  1. Finish to Start  (http://saxenablogs.blogspot.com/2015/05/learnhow-to-create-new-finish-to-start.html)
  2. Start to Start
  3. Start to Finish
  4. Finish to Finish
Today let us see the start to start which means we can start second task without waiting for our first task is getting finished.

Here at the moment in our sample plan in MS Project 2013 tool is having 5 different activities or Task allocated on one summary task.

Now in order to create a Start to Start relationship just enter dependency in each of the task 3 onwards till task 5. The advantage of MS Project 2013 tool is as soon as we enter the values in dependency column the tool automatically updates the entire Gantt chart as shown on the right part of the screen or tool.

  2. Start to Start
  3. Start to Finish
  4. Finish to Finish
Today let us see the Finish to start which means we can start second task once our first task is finished
For example let us say we need to cook food so first we need buy vegetables then prepare them by cutting etc and so on.

The Finish to start is an easier one as there multiple ways to doing it. Simplest way is just to enter predecessor for Task 2 as Task 1 and this create an arrow or link as we can see below.

Thus, we can now notice for all the task if we enter previous one as prior task or predecessor it becomes a sequential chain of events starting from Task1 till end Task 5.
