Learn/How to Assign Work Resources in a Project in MS Project 2013 ( Step by Step with screenshots)

We have seen the steps to create a Project in MS Project in our first post with entire procedure step by step.

and also we have now set the start date as 4th May 2015 with task automatically scheduled one after there another. Please check below if interested in knowing how to achieve it.

Let us say, now we want to assign resources or simply human resource. Yes we are talking about people without which project can’t happen. We can only achieve something if we have proper resources who can do the work. E.g. a building can’t be built without proper workers
Assuming we have a below sample project for which we have 5 Task depending upon each other and now we want to assign resources for each of them.

Thus, clicking resource Tab and further we can click Resource Sheet and again Resource Sheet.

Now just enter the resource name in the Resource Name column and choose Type as Work. Further we can use some Initials like R1 for Resource 1 so that we don’t need to type Resource 1 every time in the Project or MS Project Plan Task sheet as this will be a shortcut.

In practical, reality we all know nothing is free so we have cost involved for everything. Yes each resource/person here is cost and not free so we need to assign there wages as per real situation.
Therefore, we can maintain the hourly rate or wage rate here in the Standard Rate column of MS Project.

Now we can choose resources which are relevant for our Task according to our need or requirement. Clicking in the Resource Names column will now pull a drop down with all the Resource names as available in the Resource Sheet.

Yes now we can assign by selecting the relevant people for concerned task.

As now if we look we can see that all the resource relevant for each task have been assigned and more over we can also assign multiple resource for one task e.g. here is Task 5 where Resource 2 and Resource 3 are assigned.
